Hey there! I’m Emma, a recent college grad teaching English in Spain and traveling on a budget.
I’m from a small town in Florida, where I lived my whole life… until September 2022 when I moved to Spain! I love my hometown, but after growing up in the same place and then attending the university there, I craved some adventure and language immersion.
In undergrad, I studied history and Spanish, and I felt that the linguistic competency I so deeply desired was juuuuust within my reach. What better, I thought, then to move to a Spanish-speaking country where I could immerse myself in the language? I had a couple of friends who taught English in Spain, and so I looked into the groups they worked for. Eventually, I accepted a position through the North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP), a program through Spain’s Ministry of Education.
So, I moved to Spain to teach English as an auxiliar de conversación (assistant language teacher). Now, I’m here in Fuengirola (in Malaga, Andalusia) teaching at a primary school. I love the work, I love the location, and I love the people!
I’m making the most of my time in Spain by traveling as much as possible—on a teacher’s budget, of course!
