Day Trip to Cordoba, Spain: Scrapbooking My Travels
Cordoba, Spain is a gorgeous Andalusian city with a long and fascinating history that remains visually preserved in the varied architectural styles of buildings and other structures throughout the town.
Over the centuries, Cordoba has been inhabited by multiple different empires and religious groups. As a result, the Spanish city has taken on a unique character in its physical and cultural elements.
Before planning my day trip to Cordoba, the city had long been on my list of top places in Spain I wanted to visit. And I’m honestly surprised I didn’t make it there sooner, because its just an hour-long train ride from Malaga. In other words, leaving from Malaga, Cordoba makes for an easy day trip. In any case, I’m very glad to have made it to Cordoba eventually.
This blog post details what I did and where I ate in Cordoba. I list my top favorite restaurants I ate at, and my top favorite tourist attractions I visited. I also offer some recommendations for others who are planning a day trip to Cordoba.

Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba
A trip to Cordoba simply would not be complete without a visit to Cordoba’s famous Mosque-Cathedral, or Mezquita-Catedral as the locals call it. Originally constructed as a mosque in the capital city of the Al-Andalus Empire, this impressive place of worship was later turned into a cathedral by Catholic Spanish conquerers. The result of this complex history is an ornate and colorful Mosque-Cathedral unlike any building I had ever seen before.
Cordoba Synagogue
If you’re planning a trip, I would definitely recommend visiting the Cordoba Synagogue, an important monument to Jewish history in Spain. The building is small, as the Jewish community was restricted to constructing their place of worship in a smaller area. The walls inside are ornately decorated with stonework details.
Roman Bridge of Cordoba
Another popular historical site is the Roman Bridge of Cordoba, which of course is a monument to another era of imperial control of the city: the Roman imperial era. From the bridge, visitors can see great views of Cordoba’s Old Town. Where the bridge meets the city, there’s an enormous stone passageway, called the Puerta del Puente.
My top favorite restaurants where I ate in Cordoba
In the order in which I visited them, here are my restaurant recommendations for Cordoba!
Golden Stack
Golden Stack specializes in decadent stacks of pancakes with tons of toppings options. Buuuuut they also have plenty of tasty healthier options! I recommend the avocado toast.
Bar Santos
Bar Santos is a tapas bar well-known for its giant Spanish tortillas—and I do mean giant! The tortillas are basketball-sized! And they’re delicious, too!
Bar Santos is conveniently located right next to the Mosque-Cathedral, so it’s an easy place to grab a quick bite to eat between sightseeing in Cordoba.
Taberna Patio de la Judería
Taberna Patio de la Judería is an Andalusian restaurant based in the courtyard of an 18th century house. I loved everything I ate there!
The restaurant serves dinner alongside a flamenco show in the evenings.
My recommendations for Cordoba day trips
1. Take a tour!
Taking a tour of Cordoba’s historic sites made my day trip really special. I enjoyed getting to learn some of the history of the city as I walked through its streets and magnificent buildings. I booked my two-hour tour through Get Your Guide, and I definitely recommend it!
2. Spend some time wandering around Cordoba’s Old Town.
Besides Cordoba’s main historical sites, its Old Town is definitely worth a visit. I spend much of my afternoon wandering up and down the tiny stone streets and taking in the views of this picturesque city.
3. Pick up some souvenirs at Luque Gastrotienda.
Luque Gastrotienda is a mom-and-pop shop with local foods, drinks, and artisan crafts. It’s a great place to pick up a souvenir made locally in Cordoba. The owners are kind and helpful.
Well, I sure loved my trip to Cordoba! I hope you love your trip, too!
