English Teaching Resources for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to teach English language learner students some key English phrases and vocabulary. And in this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite resources for teaching primary school students about Valentine’s Day.
In general, I find that my students are most engaged when I teach them about holidays, traditions, and celebrations. So these types of lessons can be highly effective in engaging students and encouraging them to speak and write in English.
In my lessons, I like to incorporate English songs, games, and writing and speaking activities to engage my students and get them to participate in class as much as possible. I think Valentine’s Day offers a particularly nice opportunity for English language practice, because you can have your students make their own Valentine’s cards. And on their cards, they can practice writing English phrases related to Valentine’s Day.
In any case, it’s quite simply just fun to teach about holidays like Valentine’s Day! I always look forward to teaching my students about different festivities in English.
So, below you’ll find some of the best English teaching materials I’ve found for Valentine’s Day, including songs, activities, and videos. I also created a Google Slides presentation to serve as a complete lesson plan for teaching about Valentine’s Day to primary school students. Please enjoy!
Complete English Lesson Plan:
Here’s my complete English lesson plan to teach students about Valentine’s Day. This presentation is intended for first, second, and third grade primary school students, but I think much of it could be modified for older elementary school students, too. Please feel free to use part or all of this presentation with your English classes.

English Activities:
Make Valentine’s Day Cards
Making Valentine’s Day cards is a great way for students to practice spelling and writing English phrases related to the holiday. If you have access to construction paper and scissors—or even just to plain white paper and colored pencils or markers—you can let your students get creative with their own Valentine’s Day cards. Just make sure to teach them a few English Valentine’s Day words and phrases to write on their cards!
Valentine’s Day English Word Search
Print out English word searches (or crossword puzzles, or word jumbles, etc.) for Valentine’s Day and pass them out to your students. Word searches are great to help students work on spelling and word recognition. There are plenty of resources online that provide English word searches if you want to save the time you might have spent creating your own.
