Introduction Presentation Template for English Teachers

So, it’s your first week teaching English as a second language, and you need to introduce yourself to your students? I’ve got a great resource for you! I’m sharing the presentation I used to introduce myself to first, second, and third grade students in a primary school in Spain.

I teach English as an auxiliar de conversación (an assistant language teacher), and I used this introduction presentation to during my first week on the job. I really enjoyed using this Google Slides presentation (which can also be downloaded as PowerPoint), because it includes some speaking opportunities for students.

Please feel free to download the presentation and use it as a template for your own introduction presentation.

Bonus Activities: Get to Know Your Students!

After going through the presentation once (introducing yourself), go back through the presentation and use each slide as a jumping off point to ask students about themselves. For instance, on the “My name is…” slide, ask each student, “What is your name?” This is a great way to get your students to practice using complete sentences in English.

What follows is a list of questions that I asked my elementary school students in Spain on my first day as an auxiliar de conversación:

  • What is your name?

  • Where were you born?

  • How old are you?

  • Do you have any brothers or sisters? How many do you have?

  • Do you have any pets? What kinds of pets do you have?

  • What is your favorite color?

Using these questions, you have few options for English speaking activities:

  1. Go around the classroom, and ask each question to every single student, so that they all have a chance to practice each phrase and set of vocabulary words in English.

  2. Ask each question to a handful of students, so that every student gets a chance to speak English but not necessarily with every single question.

  3. Ask two students to come to the front of the class, and have one student ask the other one of the questions above. Then, the student who was asked the question can respond. This is a great way to turn this teacher introduction presentation into an opportunity for conversation activities!

Well, I hope you found these resources useful for introducing yourself in English to your class. In general, it’s a lot of work to create lesson plans, classroom activities, and other resources for primary school students. I think it’s crucial that we teachers share the resources that we create with each other.

It honestly gives me a lot of joy to think that a teacher out there might be using the material I put together to teach English to first, second, and third graders in Spain. Creating these lesson plans took a lot of time and effort, so I would love for them to get as much use as possible!

So please, help yourself to the teaching English as a second language resources in this post and throughout my blog. To see my English teaching resources on other topics, click here!

I hope your first day teaching English (in Spain or wherever else you’re teaching) goes smoothly!
