Weekend Trip to Seville, Spain: Scrapbooking My Travels

Seville (Sevilla in Spanish) is a gorgeous city located in Andalusia, Spain. The city is famous for its flamenco tablaos, its characteristic yellow-and-white buildings, and some incredible historical and architectural sites—perhaps most notably the Real Alcázar, a several-hundred-year-old royal palace.

I traveled to Seville, Spain in May of 2023, and I had a wonderful time there. I found the historical structures to be awe-inspiring. And I found the calm pace of life to be relaxing.

If you get a chance, I’d highly recommend you pay Seville a visit.

In this post, I’ll give you the highlights from my trip to Seville.

Climbing the Giralda

Today, the Giralda is a tower connected to the famous Seville Cathedral. But the Giralda originally served as a mineret to an important mosque at the end of the 12th century. After Christians conquered Seville, they built a cathedral in the mosque’s place, but they decided to preserve the Giralda.

Giralda, Seville, Spain

During my trip to Seville, I climbed to the top of the Giralda. And I have to say, it’s quite a climb! It only took about ten minutes to reach the top, but that’s a quite a while to walk continually uphill.

From the top of the Giralda, I took in stunning views of Seville.

Admiring the Seville Cathedral

My visit to the Giralda was actually part of my visit to the Seville Cathedral, as the two are connected. So after visiting the Giralda, I continued on to the Cathedral.

The Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic-style church in the world. So it’s no wonder it has received recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Seville Cathedral is also famous for housing the tomb of Christopher Columbus.

Exploring the Real Alcázar

A trip to Seville could not possibly be complete without a visit to the Real Alcázar, a royal palace originally constructed by a Muslim Caliphate and later reconstructed by Castilian Catholics.

The palace and its gardens are massive, ornate, and unique. Visitors can spend hours walking through the Real Alcázar and relaxing in its gorgeous rooms and outdoor spaces—I sure did!

Visiting the Plaza de España

Another very well-known tourist sight in Seville is the Plaza de España, a magnificent square with canals and bridges. The buildings and railings are decorated with gorgeous colorful tiles.

The Plaza de España sits alongside María Luisa Park. The area is a great place to stroll around, take in the views, and take some photos!

Wandering Through Seville’s Streets

Another activity I thoroughly enjoyed during my trip was taking some time to just wander around Seville’s streets, especially in pedestrian areas. The city has tons of beautiful places in around its winding streets, and it’s a lot of fun to explore and discover them for yourself!

Looking forward to my next visit to Seville, Spain!
