Budget for My Four-Day Trip to Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a stunning Dutch city, and I loved the four days I spent there. I traveled to Amsterdam in winter, but I found the city so beautiful that the cold didn’t even bother me too much. (Although, I wore a really warm coat the whole time!)

Traveling to Amsterdam can get a bit expensive, so it took a lot of care and planning to travel on a budget there. During my four-day trip to Amsterdam, I did my best to cut costs where I could while still making sure I got to see the things I wanted to see. Mostly, that meant eating at cheaper restaurants. And getting an Amsterdam Travel Ticket also helped. (I purchased a three-day unlimited travel pass that allowed me entry onto all public transportation within the city of Amsterdam—not including transit leaving the city.)

Here, I share the breakdown of the budget for my four-day trip to Amsterdam. Again, when looking at my travel budget, please keep in mind that I made a lot of effort to keep costs as low as possible.

Please note: I list the prices in USD below, but conversion rates vary over time. If you’re budgeting for your own travels to Amsterdam, be sure to check conversion rates around the time you’ll be traveling.

Budget: Four-Day Trip to Amsterdam

  • I spent a total of $89.96 for three nights in a four-person all-female dorm at a hostel called ClinkNOORD.

  • I spent 28 euros on a three-day Amsterdam Travel Ticket. At the time of my trip, the conversion rate for EUR to USD was pretty close to 1:1, so I didn’t bother converting for the purposes of this budget.

  • The $30.02 I spent on museums and tours covered my ticket to the Anne Frank House and my ticket for a canal boat tour. At the time of my trip, a ticket to the Anne Frank House cost $14.02. I took a canal cruise through a company called Lover’s, which charged $16 at the time of my trip to Amsterdam.

  • Over the course of three days, I spent $112.03 on food and drinks in Amsterdam. So, I spent an average of $37.34 per day on food and drinks.

Total → $260.01
