My Best Day Trips From Fuengirola: Travel in Spain

Fuengirola, Spain is a charming Andalusian beach town about 35-50 minutes from Malaga (depending on traffic and train schedules). Luckily, it’s pretty well-connected with public transportation. So it’s easy to make a lot of cool day drips from Fuengirola.

When I lived in Fuengirola, I didn’t have a car. But lucky for me, using trains and busses allowed me to have some really cool travel experiences in twenty-four hours or less!

In this post, I’ll tell you about my favorite day trips I went on from Fuengirola, Spain. They’re not ranked in any particular order—mostly because I can’t decide which one I liked the most! All of these day trips were a blast!

Malaga

Okay, this is an easy one. Like I mentioned before, Malaga is about 35-50 minutes from Fuengirola, so it’s a very natural destination for a day trip—or even for an afternoon trip.

Malaga is the second most populous Andalusian city (after Seville). So it has everything you can expect from a big city in the region—great food, incredible historic sites, bustling shops. And to top it off, Malaga is on the coast, so you can take in views of the sea or even spend some time on the beach.

Here are a few of my top recommendations for things to do and see on your day trip to Malaga, Spain:

History & Museums:

Sightseeing:

Food and Drink:

Malaga has endless options for delicious food and tasty drinks! Wander around and find a tapas bar!

Mijas Pueblo

Mijas Pueblo is a small mountainside village just twenty minutes from Fuengirola. In fact, you can see the iconic white buildings of Mijas Pueblo from many places in Fuengirola.

There are plenty of cool things to do in Mijas Pueblo. There are hiking trails, historic sites, artisan craft shops, and incredible views!

For tips on things to do in Mijas Pueblo, read my post on my first visit there. If you’re interested in hiking, check out this post for details about my first hike in Mijas Pueblo.

El Caminito del Rey, El Chorro

If you’re looking for a memorable and adventurous day trip from Fuengirola, Spain, look no further! El Caminito del Rey is unforgettable.

El Chorro is a large canyon, and el Caminito del Rey is a historic, suspended walkway through the gorge. Visitors can travel along the walkway and take in some of the most incredible views in the world.

There are some travel companies that book day trip tours from Fuengirola to el Caminito del Rey. That’s what I did, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience.

To learn more about my time walking through el Chorro on el Caminito del Rey, read this post.

Marbella

If you’re looking to spend some time in another city on the coast, Marbella is an excellent choice. It has the beauty of a historic Spanish city, and the charm of the seaside.

Take a walk through Marbella’s Old Town and stroll along the Port. You might also decide to spend the day lounging on the stunning beach.

Marbella is a pretty wealthy town, so things tend to be a bit pricier than other places along the Andalusian coast. But the wealthy tourists also mean there are some fantastic restaurants in the area!

This is by no means a comprehensive list of day trips that can be taken from Fuengirola. These are just my personal favorites that I went on while I lived there.

If you’re planning a day trip from Fuengirola, Spain, I think these four destinations above are incredible options!

Safe travels!
