My First Visit to Mijas Pueblo

Just about a week after I got settled into my new apartment in Spain, some auxiliar de conversación friends and I decided to explore Mijas Pueblo, a small town up in the hills near Fuengirola, Spain.

Mijas Pueblo is well-known for its incredible views and iconic white-painted buildings. From Mijas Pueblo, you can see the mountains in the Sierra de Mijas, and there’s a spectacular view of the coast, too. On a clear day, you can even make out Morocco on the horizon.

We took the bus, which cost 1.55 euros each way and lasted just over twenty minutes. We hopped on at the second stop. Since most people board on the first stop, aaaaand since it was a Sunday and Mijas Pueblo gets lots of tourism, the bus was quite full and we had to stand.

In Mijas Pueblo, my friends and I explored the town’s gorgeous streets and alleys. We eventually made our way to the Mirador de Mijas and Parque la Muralla. We spent quite a while wandering around the park taking in the stunning views of the coastline where the mountains meet the sea.

There are other pueblos blancos (white towns) throughout Andalusia, but Mijas Pueblo was the first I visited. So, Mijas Pueblo was unlike anything I had ever seen before. I can’t get over how incredibly dramatic the white buildings look against the rocky mountainous background.

I quite enjoyed my first visit to Mijas Pueblo. It’s a really lovely place to visit. I feel so lucky that it’s such a quick day trip from Fuengirola.

Visiting Mijas Pueblo is an excellent thing to do if you find yourself in Fuengirola, Malaga, or another city nearby. In fact, since the bus ride is so short, I think it’s one of the best day trips from Fuengirola! If you’re planning a trip to Malaga, I’d recommend adding a stop in Mijas Pueblo to your travel itinerary!
